During the summer season, Sifnos has daily connections by ferry boat from the main port of Athens, Piraeus which is about 1 hour from the airport. If possible, we find it more comfortable to plan an overnight stay in Athens upon arrival, taking an early ferry to Sifnos the next morning.
If you decide to take the High-Speed Ferry, it will take approximately 3 hours to arrive.
Moreover, there is a daily connection between Sifnos and the nearby islands of Serifos and Milos, while some particular days of the week there is also a connection to various destinations in the Cyclades, such as Folegandros, Santorini, Paros, Naxos, Mykonos, and Syros, as well as to the island of Crete. Choose your own adventure!
For the High-Speed Ferry, please refer to Sea Jets website https://www.seajets.gr/
The nearest airport is conveniently located in Milos, connected to
Athens daily. From Milos there are several boat routes that connect with Sifnos and the duration of the trip is approximately 40 mins.
If you are planning to travel through the UK, please be aware that you will need to apply for an ETA Visa, even if you are only transiting through. The application process is quick, taking about 10 minutes, and the fee is $13. You will need your passport for the application, and we suggest downloading the ETA app, which allows you to conveniently scan the RFID chip in your passport. You can find more information at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-when-you-can-get-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta
Additionally, the EU is preparing to implement its own visa system called ETIAS. Although it is not currently required for travel to attend our wedding, we recommend staying informed about any changes to the regulations.
Sifnos stands out among the Cyclades islands for its architecture and natural beauty. Once a thriving gold and silver mining location, it has since ancient times cultivated a reputation for the finer things in life. Today, it combines the picturesque with a rich tradition in cuisine and local crafts. And yet, despite its refined culture and “Cycladic chic” ambience, Sifnos retains a low profile that instils a sense of peace in the visitor.
There are 8 taxis in Sifnos with very limited availabilities, as well as local buses serving all the main villages of the islands.
